Privacy Policy

Neko no Niwa (“the App”) is an iPhone app provided by KT Labs (an individual developer; “the Developer”). This policy explains what information the App handles and for what purposes. This English version is a translation of the Japanese privacy policy; if there is any difference between them, the Japanese version prevails.

1. Accounts

The App has no account registration. You do not need to enter your name, email address, or similar information. To deliver your purchases and your “My Cat,” the App issues a random identifier for each device, but this identifier is never linked to information that identifies you, such as your name.

2. Information we collect and how we use it

Step count (Health / HealthKit)

• The App reads your step count from Health on your device and uses it only to turn it into changes in the garden (flowers, sunlight, visiting cats, and so on).
• Step data is processed on your device and is not sent to the Developer's servers.
• You can turn off access to Health at any time in Settings. Even if you do, you can still enjoy the preview garden.
• Information obtained from Health is never used for advertising or marketing purposes, and is never shared with third parties.

Photos and “special notes” (the “My Cat” feature)

• The photo you choose when welcoming “My Cat” is used only to generate a needle-felt style image.
• For the generation, the photo is sent to the Developer's server and to the image generation service provider we use (a cloud AI service). It is not used for any purpose other than the generation.
• The original photo is deleted from the server once the generated result is confirmed. The generated felt-style images are stored so that we can keep delivering your “My Cat.”
• Any “special notes” you enter are used only as instructions for the generation.
• The Developer may view generated felt-style images and “special notes” to check and improve generation quality. Such viewing is kept to the minimum necessary, is not used for any other purpose, and the content is not provided to third parties.
• The App does not access anything in your photo library other than the photos you choose.

Location and weather

• The App does not collect location information.
• The region (prefecture) you choose in the App for weather effects is used only to get weather information from Apple's weather service.

Usage and diagnostic data

• To improve the App and to fix problems around generating and purchasing “My Cat,” the App may record events about usage and processing results. Events sent to the Developer's server include the type of event as well as items such as the feature name, the processing stage, the result (a success/failure category or an error code), IDs that identify generation jobs, purchase transactions, and “My Cat,” and numbers that describe the quality of generated images, and are stored linked to the device identifier described above. Events do not include your name, the photos you entrusted to us, generated images, location information, or the region you chose.
• We also use an analytics service (TelemetryDeck) to count how features are used. What we send there is limited to event names that show feature use and coarse categories (such as the garden style, and whether weather matching is on together with the area name), processed together with an anonymized identifier that does not directly identify your device. We do not send your name, photos, purchase details, location information, or prefecture names.
• The App does not perform “tracking” as defined by Apple (following you across other companies' apps and websites). There are no ads in the App.

Purchase information (in-app purchases)

• In-app purchases such as “welcoming” a cat are made through Apple's payment system. The Developer never obtains your credit card or similar information.
• To confirm, restore, and handle refunds for purchases, we store transaction records linked to the device identifier described above.
• To prevent fraud, we use Apple's App Attest (a check that the device is genuine).

3. Sharing with third parties

Except as required by law, we do not provide the information we collect to third parties. Information provided to the service providers described above (image generation and analytics) is limited to the scope of each purpose.

4. Use by children

The App does not collect personal information targeted at any specific age group.

5. Changes to this policy

We may change this policy as needed. If there are important changes, we will let you know on this page and in the App.
